ABOUT ME

I am originally from Charleston WV however, my father served in the Army so I was considered an Army Brat and grew up all over the world. I graduated high school from Osterholz American High School in West Germany at the age of 16. In 1981 I was the first Eagle Scout recipient in West German. At 17 years of age I joined the Army. I served as an Army Ranger in special operations as the Non-Commission Officer in charge of the Battalion’s Nuclear Weapons Squad during the Cold War. I had my first experience in teaching as a drill instructor for the Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course and the Phase II Nuclear Weapons School for Non-Commission and Commission Officers. I received combat injuries and was retired in 1991.

After undergoing many operations, I attended college in Texas and obtained a degree as a Critical Care Respiratory Therapist in which I was in charge of the trauma team for about 10 years, as well as, an instructor for new medical personnel. However, my old combat injuries resurfaced while performing CPR in the Emergency Room. After many further operations in which my right shoulder was fused together I once again had to change careers. So, not wanting to harm my patients I figured that I would turn to education and teach our future scientist.

I returned to the University of Texas and obtained two more degrees in Biology and Multidisciplinary Sciences in which I received numerous national and international honors. I then obtained my teaching license originally from Texas. While teaching in Texas, since 2003, I specialized in highly ‘At-Risk’ inner city students who were recently release from the department of corrections before they could be mainstreamed back into regular classes, many of which have gone on to attend college.

Since returning home I have maintained my medical license, as well as, my biological science teaching license 9th through adult for WV. My expertise consist of  Biology, Human Anatomy, Comparative Anatomy, Clinical Microbiology and Cardiopulmonary Critical Care.  I have worked for the American Lung Association as the Lung Health Manager for the state of WV in which I trained school nurses in asthma related issues, trained school personnel to teach the “Open Airway” program for elementary students with asthma. I helped in initiating student self asthma medication protocols, as well as the school bus exhaust guidelines. I presently work part-time for a local medical company in which I provide respiratory care and education to patients.

I look forward to a long tenure at Capital High School and facilitating young adult minds in preparing you for future professions either in the medical and/or medicolegal field.
