Microscope Evlauation “Round-Robbin”

The following sections will be you evaluation on the Microscope. You will have a predetermined amount of time at each station in which you will be reponsible for reading the instructions and completing the task. Most of you evaluations will be conducted in this “hands-on” form of “round-robbin” this will better prepare you for college science labs, as well as, real-life forms of evaluations in the professional market.

MICROSCOPE OBSERVATION EVALUATION

Station 1

Prepared Slides

  1. Read the microscope use procedures.
  2. There are several prepared slides at this station.
  3. Observe FOUR different slides under the microscope.
  4. Draw and color what you observe.
  5. Write a short description of your observations.
  6. Label the magnification you used to make the observations.

When you are finished, put the slides away, and turn off

the microscope correctly.

COMPARING CELLS

Station 2

  1. You have a paper with photographs of 6 different cells.
  2. Draw and color the cells on your answer sheet.
  3. Decide if the cell is a plant cell or an animal cell.
  4. Circle your answer on your answer sheet.

Live Slides

Station 4

  1. Read the microscope use procedures.
  2. There is a jar of live micro-organisms at this station.
  3. Use the pipette to place a small amount of water containing the organisms in the well of the slide.
  4. Observe using low power, then observe using high power.
  5. Draw and color what you observe.
  6. Write a short description of your observations.
  7. Label the magnification you used to make the observations.

Miroscope Labs

You will be reponsible for downloading your lab papers and to read and be prepared to come to the lab to begin work. You may have pop quizzes prior to lab days to determine if you and/or your group are prepared. If you are not prepared you will receive a failing grade for that day with no makeups!! Please Be Prepared

1. Microscope Practice: this will assist you on getting read of those cobwebs from previous years before we really begin to use our microscopes.

2. Miroscope Predictions: You will be required to obtain three small items to bring to lab…this is your responsibility to read your instructions carefully. Some quizzes will actually ask you about the particular “instructions”. Please Be Prepared. Our labs can be dangerous with all that we will be doing this year.

Microscope Facts and Diagram Forms

The following links are for you to download and place into your Science Notebooks. You will draw from this information often when we are performing microscope work throughout the year.

Microscope Information : This link will open up on Adobe for you to save and/or print out. You are responsible for this information on safe and proper use of your teams microsope.

Microscope Observation Forms: Download this forms for whenever you are required to make drawing of your slide observations. It is your responsibility to copy your own forms. I will not supply extra forms for you. It is your responsibility.
